New 10 day Debt Counselling course! |

In accordance with changes made by the National Credit Regulator (NCR) to the Debt Counselling Training Programme, Compuscan Academy now offers a 10-day Debt Counselling course.
The course, which previously took place over 5 days, is classroom-based and designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to implement and apply the debt counselling process. In order for a debt counsellor to be registered with the NCR they must complete this course. On completion of the course learners will be issued with a Certificate of Successful completion where-after they will be able to register with the NCR as a Debt Counsellor.
The aim of debt counselling is to assist consumers to get out of debt and stay out of debt via debt rescheduling. With the knowledge gained in this comprehensive course learners will be able to assist consumers, who can no longer manage their debt, by applying the debt counselling process as stipulated in the National Credit Act (No. 34 of 2005). Learners will also gain a broad knowledge of consumer credit, the magistrate court process, as well as of the ethical and professional requirements of the debt counselling industry.
After completion of the course learners will be able to:
- Understand how and when a consumer can apply for debt review
- Determine whether a consumer is over-indebted
- Read and interpret credit bureau reports
- Understand reckless credit
- Restructure debt
- Negotiate an agreement or deal in an authentic work situation
- Draft a consent order
- Monitor consumer payments
- Issue a Clearance Certificate
- Communicate verbally with clients in a financial environment
- Use writing processes to compose texts required in the business environment
- Behave in a professional manner in a business environment
- Analyse and explain the impact of one’s personal interactive style on one’s relationship with a client
- Manage time and work processes in a business environment
- Outline the legal environment of a selected industry
- Gather and manage information for decision making
- Manage personal finances
- Conduct debt counselling duties and responsibilities effectively and professionally
- Offer support services and make referrals
- Register with the NCR as qualified debt counsellors
